$20 Is The New Cost Charged By Verizon To Upgrade The Smartphones

According to the leaked internal report that is obtained by the MacRumors the plan of charging a fee of $20 has begun from the last week, precisely, April 4, 2016. A rate of $20 is applied to all the Smartphones which have been bought on a full retail price or Device Payment financing plan.

According to the memo, the reason for charging a fee stated that the Verizon has planned this in order to cover their increasing support cost which is associated with customers who are switching their devices. It also stated that all the channels would charge the new upgrade fee. By the indirect channel the fee is added to the next bill of the customer while the by the direct channels, the fee is charged at the POS.

After going through the memo, it is clear that nearly all the customers would be affected, including those who are eagerly waiting to participate in Apple’s iPhone program. The business accounts that do not have an ECPD profile would be affected as well. Apart from the new $20 fees the $40 fee that was existing for customers who want to renew a couple of years contract is still there. This is bound to make its customers truly unhappy.

It is also found that AT&T has started to charge a similar charge of $15 which would be upgraded to AT&T Next. Sprint has begun to charge fee to activate or upgrade the Smartphones with a cost of $36 and even above whereas T‐Mobile has no upgradation fee.
