Apple’s luck in legal matters is just too bad; they lose money in every quarter. A judgment was given and an old case finally ended. Apple surely has the chance to appeal again, but that won’t be fruitful. The “FaceTime” platform had some patents, Apple violated them. The permissions were never taken; Apple can lose up to $302 million. Patent infringements are always dangerous, no company takes this risk. The jury went against Apple and supported their rivals.
VirnetX lost the previous case, but they didn’t lose hope. Robert Schroeder mentioned that VirnetX is confused, they should get their facts right. The firm from Nevada is extremely weird; they earn millions by doing nothing. The tech community is aware of their powers, Apple didn’t think correctly. VirnetX never launched any products, their revenue comes from lawsuits. The patents can be licensed by paying a certain amount of money; the lawsuits come into action later. In 2012, VirnetX secured $368 million, but that didn’t last for too long. After two years, it was discovered that the calculation was faulty. A total of four patents were in question, the damages are huge. In US, patent cases happen all the time, but it never exceeded $625.6 million.
Apple will probably get one more chance, they think nothing is wrong. The company never gives out money so easily, they handle patent trolls effectively. VirnetX is extremely demanding; they keep on pushing the judges. Apple generally skips commenting about these matters, they have serious work to do. VirnetX will release a statement after the main verdict. If the action is intentional, the amount will surely go up. Some security features were also stolen, VirnetX is not happy about that as well. No one though iMessage will get into nasty legal woes; but it did happen. As the case reaches Washington, Apple will get an advantage.
