Macs Of 2016 Will Get The Benefit Of Polaris Graphic Chips Of AMD’s New 400 Series

Last October, it was reported about the rumours pertaining to the AMD design win, via multiple sources, the same has been confirmed by WCCF tech that indeed Apple is the customer that is in question. The company’s latest design shows the use of 200/300 series GPU’s by the company in the Retina imam’s 27″ and Retina Macbook Pro 15″. It is believed that for the chip maker, this is a boon as the Apple has managed to see its share on the market graphics.

The reason why the design wins is due to Polaris 10 and 11 which are the two graphic processor families. Earlier, the code named that was carried was Ellesmere. It is believed that due to the power range, upgrading the iMac would become more suitable. The code name given to Polaris 11 is Baffin and is also believed to be suitable for upgrading the Retina Macbook Pro.

The graphic chips have been limited by the company in regards to the iMac and Macbook Pro lines. For smaller form factors, there would be chips that would be suitable in regards to the notebooks that belong to Apple. This would be applicable only to broader array of models should the company choose to go ahead and embrace the discrete graphics.

As noted previously, it is said that this significant performance upgrade would be set to the switch to the new GPUs of the new Polaris line. Computex also announced the AMD in regards to AMD GPIs which are lower powered and built on a 14nm process for Global Foundries’. An agreement has been made between the multiple foundries in regards to the equivalent process of the 2nd generation of Samsung which is considered to the successor of the A9X and A9 that is used as well as featured in the iPads and iPhones that are recently being launched.
