According to the request, or rather the order of the FBI, Apple has been ordered to do something which no private corporate house has ever been forced to do. Apple has been ordered by FBI to create a new tailor made OS for the FBI which will help them to bypass the security system all iPhones carry at the present moment. Although this is an outrageous order to give in the first place, FBI has a reason behind it. One of the shooters, Syed Farook, of the San Bernardino case had an iPhone 5c in possession. The FBI feels that the phone might contain a lot of information and thus wants to open it.
Though the order seems to be quite a tame order and Apple can easily help them, it actually is not. As soon as Apple creates this particular OS, the FBI will have a very specialized weapon which will give them access to all the iPhones all across the world. Keeping that in mind, Apple launched an MTV, which allows them to deny the court order. The main reason behind this is that at the present age, when encryption is most needed to keep vital information private,
Apple cannot consciously provide information to break encryption, that to of their own device. this coming week, Apple is scheduled for a hearing at the House of Congress, where they will have to provide with vital information showing that they have been absolutely right regarding the decision they had taken. According to the law, a motion was passed which stated that telecommunication companies should create backdoors to their devices and provide the government with the means of accessing the backdoors whenever needed. On the other hand, since Apple falls under an information service company, they are not included as under this law. Thus, Apple has ample reason to easily deny the court order and get their way.
