A lot of the people in Australia were suffering from the remote locking of their Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, Macintosh Personal computers, laptops, etc. There was a typical message in Russian which demanded an amount of $50, $100 from the user to get the device unlocked for the user else they shall lose their device forever. It happened in the year 2014 when reaching the iCloud accounts was itself a task into itself. It was not easy to breach the setting of the device to get in directly there.

The common pseudo name at that time was Oleg Pliss under which the name of the hacker was displayed. It was noted by Troy Hunt that a lot of compromised emails was being used by him at that time to send the messages and emails to the users. The hacker was eventually arrested. Apple also confirmed that the iCloud was never hacked by anyone in past or could be ever done in future too. He had gained the limited access of the few ids and passwords from some of the internal sources. He was running his own phishing scam to make some quick bucks through this activity. In all the ransom cases the amount being asked by the scammer was $30 to $50 and he was given a time span of 12 hours to make the payment or straight away lose the data from their device.

A lot of the users went viral over the social media platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc. An investigation started by the cyber expert where he asked the access for over 40 cloud accounts. It was being believed that somewhat 40 million accounts have been compromised. It was also found that a huge database of 291,214 accounts has already been sold for the peanut price of $775.
