All this time, all the Apple headphones, be it for iPads or iPhones sported the 3.5mm jack. In recent times, Apple is rumored to have plans for a very new set of head phones, which will not only give the user better controls, but also a much better sound quality. For a long time now, there have been speculations about the new Beats Headphones for Apple and the Lightning earpods.
According to all the rumors that are currently spreading like wildfire, the newest addition to the Apple family, iPhone 7, is said to be letting go of the traditional 3.5 mm headphone and latching on to the new age Beats headphone. Logically speaking, this is quite a sensible decision, as put forward by announcements made in 2014, which stated that all future Apple devices will all have lightning type connectors for headphones. The main reason behind this is that why will one spend to manufacturing two separate ports when the work can be fulfilled with one single port. With the new model of iPhone 7, Apple is planning to introduce this type of product to the iPhone market. Moreover, with introduction of lightning type connectors and ports, the smart phones can be made slimmer than their previous counter parts.
On the other hand, this particular decision makes it difficult for third party headphone builders in a fix. Now, with the new range of connectors on iPhones, they need to build headphones with iPhone specifications. This will definitely be a setback in their progress in the iPhone market. On the other hand, one more logical step can be concluded from recent events of Apple. Apple can also look to join the headphone market to compete against third party builders by releasing lightning connected headphones under the Beats logo.
Advantage of using Lighting Headphones
The main concept of lightning type connecting headphones was first released in the WWDC session held for developers, which was named “Designing Accessories for iOS and OS X”. In this session, it was Robert Walsh, the platform accessories manager for Apple, stated all the advantages that a lightning type connector has over the 3.5 mm jack connector.
Firstly, the lightening type connector provides with a much better audio experience, with better control modules for controlling playback and volume. It also provides with better bandwidth and has a number of extra features. For example, if a user has a headphone which has noise cancellation in it, they can also control that specific feature from their smart phone with the help of an app. This is never actually possible with the 3.5 mm jack headphone.
Moreover, the lightning type headphones will be able to receive audio output of 48 kHz from Apple devices, without any kind of stereo phonic loss. Keeping all these in mind, no one can really deny that Apple is seriously looking into this matter and rumors are in fact, quite true.
