Skype is a well-known platform for making calls around the world. It offers free calling from Skype to Skype round the world for the users. The company also later started offering credit to the users for making calls on the devices. The credits can be bought over the website for making calls. Beginning from October, Skype will be asking for iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite for their full functionality on the Apple handsets.
Skype took this giant step due to their cloud infrastructure. The reports were released by Microsoft on Wednesday. The earlier versions of the iOS like OS X Mountain Lion or earlier will not be having any functionality or a very limited functionality available for the users.
The reduction in the support of the features has been announced on the official blog of the Skype. The company says that they will be sooner migrating to a model of network away from the peer to peer network. Microsoft claims that their migration step will be enabling better services for the users like video messaging, easy and better file sharing, etc. The transition from the network will be easy and very smooth for the users. The company requests the users to stay abreast with the updates.
A good option for the people using the old version of the Macintosh OS could be using the website version of the Skype. It works great with the WebRTC-compatible browsers. Skype came in 2003 with the peer to peer client server network for the users and now after 13 years, Microsoft is planning to migrate their network. Microsoft bought Skype in 2011 for the sum amount of $8.5 billion. They have gained around 300 million active users per month. The last major update for Skype was released in October 2015 for the iOS platform.
