Apple’s First Blind Employee Hired for Accessibility Projects

Apple is one of those companies whose commitments are always fulfilled by them. In fact most of them they stay vocal about their commitments. Apple’s priority has always been accessibility of their products and design. One of the engineers of the Apple the 22 year old Jordyn Castor is blind since birth. He recently spoke about the design aesthetics and quality of the Apple.

Being a 15 month pre mature birth, she had been blind since his birth. She has never allowed her blindness to hold her back. She went through Michigan State University where she first attended internship with Apple. After attending her first internship with Apple, she was hired full time with the company. Castor has been blind since birth, a result of being born 15 weeks early, but she hasn’t let that hold her back. She attended Michigan State University and first was given an internship at Apple after speaking to representatives at a job fair. After her internship was up, she was hired as a full- time employee. Castor is a qualified engineer working fulltime on the accessibility project with Apple. Teammates of Castor describe her as passionate and dedicated.

Apple spoke with Mashable and disclosed that accessibility features is very important for them. Accessibility is a never ending feature. It can only be polished with time however it can never be ignored completely. Castor is happy to be a part of the team. She calls the team of the Apple immensely dedicated and highly passionate. She says, she feels blessed to part of the organization. Castor holds an important role while designing accessibility features for Apple’s Swift, the Playgrounds app. She holds a higher importance at her place. Apple is working upon the latest feature of the iWatch OS version 3, where a blind person can find the time using the vibrations of the device.
