A plea agreement has been signed by a Chicago man aged 28 years by the name of Edward Majerczyk, he has pleaded guilty as per what had been agreed upon in regards to iCloud accounts of celebrities being phished by hi, which in turn led to him being charged under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act violation. This was also noted down under the documents of the court that had even made public.
The California’s Los Angeles district court had charged him however The Northern District of Illinois will be the place where he would be pleading guilty. In this case, there would be a prison sentence of 5 years, Celebgate which was the name given to the iCloud attack had the involvement of a Pennsylvanian man, aged 36 years by the name of Ryan Collins, in March had also had his entry into a plea agreement. The prison time that was sentenced to him was 18 months.
Collins and Majerczyk both got into the scheme which was phishing in nature between November 2013 and September 2014. As per the documents of the court, the two wanted to get their hands on Gmail and iCloud account information like passwords and usernames of 300 victims in which celebrities who were females were also included.
Emails had been sent by the two to their victims posing that they were from Google and Apple and asked the victims to provide their passwords and user name. After which the credentials were used by the two to access the accounts illegally so that private information could be extracted by them. This included videos and even nude photographs. In September 2014, the celebrity nude photographs were then leaked out by them which spread in various sites on the internet. The one catch here is that there was no real evidence found by the investigators about the fact that the two were the ones who leaked the photographs out.
