During the presentation of the watch OS3 segment at the keynote of the Worldwide Developers conference, a new app called Breath was introduced. The app is said to be mindfulness based one and the concept behind it, it to help owners of the Watch app manage the stress they face on a daily basis better. The functionality of the app is to ensure that users take a little time out of their daily schedule and concentrate on their breathing.
There are one minute sessions that are by default loaded in the app by providing the necessary guidance just through 7 breaths. By rotating the Digital Crown, the duration of these exercises can also be extended to 5 minutes. The person would be required to take slow deep breathes of up to 4 breaths per minute to even increasing it to 10 per minute.
At the start of the session, the user will be asked by the App to remain still and focus on their breathing. Then a series of Mandala like concentric circles began expanding and contracting on the screen of the watch. This helps the user to make the necessary adjustments to their breathing rate as it acts like a visual guide.
From the demos, the one thing that was not obvious is how the haptic feedback of the Apple Watch is used by the app. With the help of a rhythm of delicate tapping, the sound goes fast and fades out gradually which is a cue to exhale. The haptic feedback use also means that the heart rate of the user is also recorded at the time the session is going. Throughout the day, you will also get to know how much of time was spent on the app. The user can go ahead and snooze the prompts as well as changes can be made to the frequency in the settings of the app.
