The First Look Given by Guardian on the 2010 Failed Prototype Car that Was Seen by Steve Jobs

An interesting piece has been given by The Guardian in regards to the prototype car that managed to catch Steve Job’s interest during the 2010 spring. It was then called as the C‐ Vehicle and was an attempt in the creation of a low cost, lightweight car that is powered by gas and the cheaper materials is the secret.

Working along with designers like Bryan Thompson, Anke Bodack, Tom Matano, the body of the car that was development was made from glass fibre and polypropylene. In comparison with the conventional steel vehicle, this was around 40% lighter. Even the production of the car would be 70% less in the cost factor, the hatchback was creamy white and had body panels which were not painted and could be upgraded into a body of a space frame. The technique for the design was reserved usually for cars of the higher end such as Audie or Ferrari 360 line of cars.

Steve wanted to see the email within a few hours after it was received; the car was taken by Thompson and his team to Steve’s house. There was a lot of advice that was given by the co‐ founder of Apple when he was sitting inside the car for 15 minutes.

Steve had advised Thompson to think about the emphasising the plastic instead of getting it disguised. He went on to say that the material should be left the way it was. He also noted that the fibre‐wood dashboard should be a composite of wood pulp and synthetic resin. He also said that another thing what would be better was that the design should be one piece so that a sense of high precision can be evoked. This was the idea that Steve often came back to with Jonathan Ive the chief design officer for Apple.
