At this point, the expectations that is widely been seen is about the rebranding of the Apple’s Mac OS X to just the Mac OS at the WWDC. However, another change had been hinted in the recent announcement in regards to the App Store. Even in the iTunes Connect website’s FAQ page, the Mac OS X was mistakenly referred to by Apple as macOS; this could also be a hint towards the change.
Referring to the Mac OS X as the macOS is something that has not been done by the company for the first time. Even in March, a framework was discovered in the OS X 10.11.4 where the operating system was referred to as macOS. Even in month that followed, a new environmental webpage was launched by Apple where the operating system was referred t as MacOS.
It is still yet to be known if there are plans to rebranding would be done to MacOS or macOS, however as of now there are two leaks that use the latter while the former is used only by one. While watchOS, tvOS and iOS all have letters that are lowercased, however in this case themain difference is that watch and TV is not a proper noun like how Mac is. Probably this is one of the reasons why the company’s name is not in front of them.
The rebranding of Mac OS X to macOS is something that seems to be sense for Apple at this point. Just like the rest of the lineup of Apple’s software, this would make Mac fit in easily and even give a name that is more understandable and concise. Another fact that came to light is that there is a chance that the naming of the macOS may just be included in the latest release of the guidelines of the App Store.
