It was reported by the Business Insider that there has been a further delay to take the decision. A Bord Pleanála which is the planning body stated that until the 11th August reaching to a decision will not be possible, as they need to keep in mind that in order to support Apple’s data center, what kind of impact of the infrastructure would be needed.
In response to the environmental objection in regards to the data center of $950 M, the company argued on the fact that it is the development that has been proposed is necessary and for the next 10‐15 years would meet the demand of the project as well as there is no risk posed to the environment locally. There has been a delay in the construction even though a go ahead was given to the company initially due to the decisions that were made. An appeal has already been filed against that decision.
There were five concerns that were raced by An Bord Pleanála the planning body and the company were asked to respond to it. Business Insider managed to get to see the transcript pertaining to the oral response of the company. Robert Sharpe who is the Senior Director of Apple’s global data center services had explained the reason and importance of the data center.
The statement that he marked opened with a complete explication in regards to the fact that there is a huge demand that is being experienced by Apple for their popular services like iCloud, Apple Pay, Apple Music and App store. On a daily basis, the data center of Apple handles tens of millions of Video calls, more than a billion photos, tens of billions of messages. He even stated that there is an expectation by the customers to be able to listen to their favorite music and stream their videos. Their expectations are high in regards to the quality, reliability, responsiveness, speed etc. And continued on by also stating, the company’s approach is to have data centres that are spread.
