FM Chip Unlocking Petition For Android Smartphones

In the United Station, a petition has been running which urges manufacturers and carriers to unlock the FM chip that is hidden in smartphone’s. Ever since its inception, a significant steam has been gained by the campaign. It has also resulted in carriers agreeing and has already started to unlock the chip. Apple’s comment on the same is yet to come out in the open.

In United States, T‐Mobile, Blu, AT&T and Sprint have agreed on the activation of the chip in smartphone’s that are Android based. While T‐Mobile, Blue and AT&T state that the feature was coming soon, Sprint says that the Android Phones under their hands already have the capability open already and is now available for their users.

Free radio on my phone, which is the name of the petition, has already been a success in America and now it is going to be launched even in Canada. The users hope that this would urge Canadian Carriers to also follow the same footsteps of what the US carriers have done as well as activate the FM Radio Chip.

Apple was first called by The National Association of Broadcasters so that the iPhones FM chip could be unlocked by them. This was around a year back. Apple was also called by FEMA so that they could switch on the FM Radio feature as it would come in handy during the time there is an emergency.
