According to a recent post of Stuxnet, the company stated how he world has evolved into cybercrime. According to them, it is high time the world realizes the fact that internet security is one of the most important aspects of technology today and it is not to be dealt with in a callas manner. Today, with the use of cutting age technology, attacks on various public sector infrastructures have increased, mainly in the energy sector. Recently, many hackers are attacking the water and electricity sectors, asking for ransom in exchange for supply of these utilities.
Though the public sectors can fix these problems and shut out hackers after extensive work, the companies are facing a lot of downtime as well as financial loses. The worst part about all these is that if cyber crime is focused on industries and factories, it not only creates problems in production, but also threatens the lives of the workers and all the individuals related to the industry. Recently, the Bowman Avenue Dam was attacked by Iranian hackers. According to the reports, they gained access to the floodgates of the dam and asked for ransom to release control over the floodgates. If in any way the situation had worsened and the hackers opened the floodgates, a lot of lives may have been lost.
Though the attacks are turning more brutal, technicians in the security sector remain confident of their systems. They feel that their technology and systems are efficient and secure enough and that these attacks occur by fluke. Still, the sectors do need to tighten their security and make it more secure so that situations like this never rise in the future. They need to understand the problem before hand, search for anomalies in the system at regular intervals and attend to them, however small they might be.
