Earlier in the week, some code for Chrome OS had surfaced which hinted at the fact that millions of Android apps would be brought by the Google Play Store to Chrome OS. On the Chrome OS, the Android Apps has already been experimented by Google, however considering the fact that the Chrome OS is an operating system that falls under the browser only category, unleashing the complete collection of Android apps would be poised. Google is yet to release an official word as to how this will be done. There are a few interesting possibilities that opens up by the implementation of the Android Apps of Google on Chrome Os due to the architecture of the apps.
The App Runtime for Chrome of ARC is the feature that makes this possible, this is a project is an implementation of the runtime of Android on top of the architecture of the Native Client extension of Chrome. The Native Client was designed keeping in mind portability and performance and is a sand boxing technology of Chrome. This allows various plug in’s running at speeds which are considered as near native, full advantage is taken of the system’s GPU and CPU.
Last year, a big step was taken by ARC as support had been added for the API’s of Google Play Services which is something that is depended upon by the apps of Play store so that they can work. The Google Play apps which will open on Chrome OS from the Play store would use a form factor which is new however that could just be the iceberg’s tip. One of the extensions of Chrome is ARC this is why wherever Chrome works, the ARC extension also works. So if the complete Play Store of Google comes to ARC, the possibility of it working not only on Chrome OS however on other operating system’s host desktop like Linux, OS X and Windows would be possible.
