Old High School of Tim Cook to replace Macbooks and opt for Chromebooks The Macbook does not seem to be the favorite of the High School that Tim Cook used to go to which was in Alabama’s Robertsdale. The CEO of Apple had graduated in 1978 from Robertsdale High. He managed to swap the notebook of the company that was being given to the students.
It was believed that the students from the 3rd grade right up to the 12th of the CEO’s ex school and even the teachers all got the Mac books. For the students who were younger than that got iPads for their use. The total number of Apple devices that was being used by the school totalled up to 20,000.
All this was a part of the $24 million plan which was for 3 years that was called Digital Renaissance. The officials plan to reduce the amount that they have spent. The plan is to use Lenovo Chromebooks which are priced at $200 per piece in place of the laptops of Apple.
This means that in comparison to what the Robertsdale high has been paying, this move would reduce the cost by $73 percent. As per the Washington Post, a total of $6.6 million is what the school would need to pay for a total of 23,500 N1 Lenovo machines. This can be done if the school sells the present Macbooks that they have.
The Baldwin County School’s Chief technology Officer, Homer Coffman stated that if you look at the Chromebooks, they are user friendly and easy to maintain. Even in the security they are a lot better. The use of educational apps by Google is already in use by students and teachers. He also added that with the help of this particular implementation, the technology which is bleeding edge will not be used by the Baldwin County; in fact the use of proven technologies will be preferred.
