Codenames Of Apple Are Inspired By Ski Resorts And Mountain Names

Apple has always maintained their record to ensure that the names for their products are kept simple. While Google has names like Ice Cream Sandwich, Honeycomb and Gingerbread as names for the various Android versions, Apple prefers to use numbers such as iOS5 or iOS4.3.3. Well while outside there is a lot of simplicity, within the company things is not as simple as they seem. Just before they go ahead and ship their products, there are weird names that are used by company. Though they may be weird but on the label they also sound wonderful. These names are only restricted to the camp of the company.

Recently a developer went ahead and posted a complete code name list that is used by the company for their products on Twitter. This was discovered by TiPb first, this list that has been posted, covers each and every iOS release from day one. This also includes the list of the iOS 5.1 which is yet to be released. If you take a look at the names, you will see that they are all different Ski Resorts in North America.

Alpine was the code name that was given to IOS 1.0 which is after the Californian resort called Alpine Meadow. Big Bear was for 1OS 2.0 which is again the name of the California Big Bear Lake. The Kirkwood Mountain’s name Kirkwood was given to iOS 3.0.

They even used the inspiration of New Hampshire’s mountain where they nicknamed the iOS 3.02 as Wildcat. For iOS 4.0, it was nicknamed after the Mountain Resort called Apex. IOS 5.0 was named after the Colorado Ski Resort called Telluride while Hoodoo which is a ski resort in Oregon has been given to the iOS 5.01 which is yet to be released and is presently on the beta stage.
