It was reported earlier in the year that out the many tech companies Apple was one of them to sit down for the negotiations to obtain the rights to stream the Football games of the NFL Thursday Night. While NBC and BCB have already got the rights to broadcast it on TV, the NFL is also keeping its options open when it comes to provide the rights for streaming. However, the recent news that has now come up is that the company is not interested anymore to purchase the streaming rights for the Thursday night games.
The reason why the company is not interested anymore is due to the fact that they feel the NFL is quoting a price for the streaming package which is not even worth. Even though the company wants to go ahead and offer the streaming facility on Apple TV however they feel that the investment which they would make on NFL does not seem worth it.
Now that Apple has backed off from the run, companies like Yahoo, Verizon, Amazon and Facebook are still in the race. Though we still do not know the bidding amount for the rights would be however CBS and NBC have paid around$225 each so that they get the rights to air the 5 games on the TV as well as on streaming services of the cable subscribers respectively.
Last year when one of the NFL games was streamed by Yahoo they manage to attract viewers which totaled up to 15.2 million. Both NFL and yahoo were very happy with the numbers and are looking forwards for the same kind of streaming results even this year. Now that Apple is out of the race, it will be interesting to know who will win the streaming rights as well as see what the company plans to do to offer streaming services for apple TV users.
