TSMC which is the key supplier for Apple Processor is all set to double the capacity of their production in March for 16 nanometre chips. This information was released on Wednesday through the help of reports. This also hinted that this would be a preparation for Apple devices in the future.
It is said that by the month end, the capacity is said to leap to 80,000 instead of 40,000 of wafers that are 12″/ This was said as bet thee economic Daily news which was in Chinese language and was also quoted by Digitimes. Though there has been no indication as to why there is such a rapid scale up by the company.
For TSMC, Apple is one of the top most names and biggest clients that it cater to when it comes for 16 nanometre requirements. In the list also includes Nvidia, Spreadtrum, HiSilicon, Media Tex, Xilinx and a few others.
It is also rumoured that the company is said to be the sole or primary manufacturer for the processors that will be used for the iPhones of the next gen. The A 10 processor is also said to be in mass production. It is also said that on the second quarter, the company is said to start a mass production for its clients.
If Apple is said to ship their iPhone shipments in the month of September, then the processor would be needed to be supplied well in advance so that they can get a head start and will be able to manufacture a sufficient amount of iPhone 7 available before they can launch it in the market officially. This can b a real challenge as long as they duties are not being shared with Samsung as in the case for the iphone 6S and 6S Plus.
