In recent times, Apple has had India as one of its key targets for marketing. Previously, we have known that Apple has targeted to open around 500 retail shops across 12 well known cities. The latest new which has featured shows Apple spending approximately $25 million USD on a project in India. It is said that this project will provide around 4500 people with jobs. The news about the project was reported by V L Srinivasan for the ZDNet.
GT Venkateshwar Rao, the managing director for Telengana State Technology Services in India stated that the image of the city, Hyderabad, will increase considerably as a technological hub, due to the decision taken by Apple to build it technology development center in Hyderabad. Rao also stated that the Windows OS, Microsoft Windows 10 was actually developed in India, specifically in Hyderabad, and is now a worldwide OS. Moreover, both Google as well as Microsoft have announced that they are planning to make investments in India too.
Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, stated that they have plans of expanding their hold over India as it is the 3rd best location in the world for start‐ups to flourish and they are planning to use this advantage. Even Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai has claimed that they will be building the biggest Google campus in South Asia in Hyderabad. This project is estimated to cost $160 million and will be the very first campus Google has made outside the US.
Way back in 2006, Apple had planned of opening a product center in the city of Bangalore, but finally the plans were abandoned after a simple 3 months effort. According to the chief PR of Apple, Steve Dowling, at that time, the plans were pushed back since they thought that building product centers in other countries will prove much more profitable for Apple.
