The CVS Pay had been introduced by CVS as a holdout for Apple Pay, this is a new payment solution that is a mobile solution which is barcode based. With this feature, a person can go ahead and scan just one during the checkout and can go ahead and pick up the prescription, integrates payment and even the ExtraCare loyalty program. For Android and iOS devices, the CVS Pharmacy app has been recently updated with the CVS Pay.
Presently, all major credit cards in the US work with CVS Pay; this includes American Express, Discover Visa and MasterCard. This is in addition to the Flexible Spending Account cards, Health Saving Account and debit cards. Within the CVS Pharmacy app there is ability where the prescription verifications and payments can be done through a PIN or signature.
After the debit and credit cards are added to the app, a barcode can be shown to the associate of the store by the customer. This can also be done to initiate a payment or even to the drive thru location. The barcode will be scanned by the associate, purchases will be called and allow the payment method that is stored be chosen by the customer before the payment is processed.
When it comes to the mobile payment solution, the first pharmacy chain which came up with it is CVS with the introduction of the CVS Pay. Soon after they launched their service, the Apple Pay had been disabled in the US. This resulted in a prompt response that was sent by Apple and can also result in a potential lawsuit of class action. The launch of the CVS Pay is on selected markets which includes Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, it is said that the nationwide release of the service will happen later on in the year.
