During an interview with Craig Federighi and Eddy Cue by Fast Company, there was a time when the discussion took on to the various issues that were faced by Apple Maps after its launch and actions that were taken by the company pertaining to the same. Rick Tetzeli, who was the person that conducted the interview, got a very good insight about the same.
While addressing this particular topic, Cue stated that the Maps are a task that is endless. This is because of the fact that there are many businesses which closes and opens and evens various kinds of changes to the different streets. The engineering process for this dynamic activity was not accounted from, however now thanks to the data that the company gets from their customers helps to improve the Maps service.
For example, just by keeping a track of the downloads on the App Store, Apple can get to know the various changes that is going on such as if there is a new bowling center opened or even a golf course. The data that is accumulated from the crowd is a starting point towards the improvement of the service. The data that is collected also helps to also get to know if there is a chance in the flow of the traffic, highlights new roads or even roads which are closed due to construction or if any bridges are closed.
The commute patterns will be learnt by the device as you travel around or between your home and office. It will let you know when you should leave early just in case there is a traffic jam en route. In regards to the Apple Maps, another point that had been highlighted was the fact that when it came to the associations of the project, there were a lot of Apple employees who were part of it.
