Facebook needs nothing but data; they need huge amounts of data to keep their business steady. It is supplied by different services, WhatsApp is one of them. They were afraid of WhatsApp’s popularity; the app had the power to dethrone them. Mark bought it and molded its functionalities; it is a tool to destroy Snapchat. Mark often said big things about user privacy, but things changed in August. The app tracked conversations and searched for key terms, it was used to upgrade the ad experience. This was never the main plan, Mark said some big lies. A temporary option was available in the beginning, Facebook removed it.
Users were scared, they never felt secure anymore. UK’s government is very strict about spying, they hate nuisance. The app will function normally in Britain, so sneaky activities will go on in the background. Facebook received this big blow, they will figure out some other way to tackle this. The law will never change for anyone, people’s security is everything. Data collection will happen from other countries, Facebook never gets discouraged. Information Commission suddenly became very strict, data is leaking from major gateways. Facebook is just like other companies, they have to follow the given guidelines.
Product improvement can’t be a strong agenda; Facebook must say something better than this. UK has set the example, many others will follow. People are not sure, they are living in fear. The government must take the strong decisions to help the common citizens. Facebook never wanted a black spot on their brand, the probe scared them totally. Germany did it earlier, they warned Facebook time and again. The law was never followed by them, the pull out was natural. France is now conducting investigations, Facebook is really worried. This can affect WhatsApp’s revenue, they can’t earn from any other source.
