The authorities of the United States have arrested the owner of the largest torrent site of the world. The arrest went after Apple shared some personal details which were linked with a transection on the iTunes. It enabled the investigators to proceed with the investigation. Artem Vaulin (Ukraine-born owner) was arrested in Poland on the suspicion charges of running the well-known popular website KickassTorrents (KAT).
The website was well known for pirated copies of TV shows, music, movies, books, etc. The extradition charges were requested for the 30-year-old Vaulin. The charges of money laundering and copyright infringement were placed on him. The personal details of Vaulin were handed over by Apple for investigating from the authorities. Investigators matched the IP address of Artem Vaulin which was used for logging in into the Facebook page of the KAT. It was also linked with one of the purchases done on the iTunes.
According to the records provided by Apple, a transaction was carried by tirm@me.com using the IP address 109.86.226.203 dated July 31, 2015. The same IP address was once again used for logging in into the Facebook account of KAT which operates in more than 28 languages. KAT offers ton of movies, songs and TV shows in many languages and has earned significant amount from advertisement on their website. The estimated earning of the KAT is over 54 million according to the estimates. The website earns more than 12.5 million to $22.3 million. According to Leslie Caldwell , the assistant attorney general KAT has nearly distributed files worth 1 billion for free.
Piracy is a heinous crime and is completely not justified. Each year several billions of dollars is lost by the industry due to the pirated content being floated on the internet. A lot of strict measures are being taken now to abolish it completely.
