Recently it was vaguely reported that the very popular augmented game Pokémon Go will be getting the complete access of the Google’s account. Google says that if the complete access of the account is given to the Pokémon Go, a user will be able to modify any information on their Google’s account. It was later clarified by Niantic, they told that the news about Pokémon Go having the complete access of the Google account was vague and a mistake as well.
They have reported to the ABC news that the news in the media about the complete access of the Google’s account was completely erroneous. It was actually about Pokémon Go having the complete access to the profile information on the Google account which includes the name, user id of the users, etc. The company is currently working on fixing the permission request for the basic information form the Google’s profile. Google additionally verified that Niantic is not accessing any other information from the profile of the user apart from the basic ones. Google is also working on the other hand to reduce the user permission of the Pokémon Go limited up to the basic information on the profile.
The company has clarified their stance in a press statement given to the journalists. They accept their fault and clearly mentioned that they shall not be storing any information of the user apart from the basic mentioned details. The error of the complete account access only prevailed with their users who were having the iOS support on their phone. The Android users remained untouched and unaffected under all the circumstances. As mentioned earlier, both the companies are working on their part to fix the error. Once the error has been fixed and confirmed by both of them, we shall report it for the users.
