In the smartphone market of China, the share that Apple has had during the month of May has seen a decline where now it stands on the 5th place. Local brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo Huawei are the leading names that have taken the lead and pushed Apple on the 5th spot. This year, the share of Apple came down to 10.8 percent from 12 percent. In the market, At 17.3 percent Huawei manage to take the lead during the month of May as it saw an increase while the share of Oppo which was at 11 percent said to have doubled.
If you combine the different brands that are in the lead, all of them are Chinese brands and in the market, they hold a combined share of around 53% as per Counterpoint data. In April, the earnings that had been reported in regards to the revenue in China showed a decline on the year over year of around 25% for the first quarter which ended in March. The reasons stated were currency weakness and significant channel reduction. In China, it is said that the numbers that had been reported were lower than what had been expected. Tim Cook, who is the CEO of the company, had highlighted the fact that presently the year ago growth which is said to be strong is what the company is up against.
There have been various hurdles that Apple has faced in the market, due to this, it also resulted that the iPhone sales were affected. In April, the movies and iBooks services in the country were shut down and then the issues pertaining to the iPhone trademark’s exclusive use in May followed along with the court ruling. Along with that, there was also word about the design of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus which was said to be very similar to the design of one of the local manufacturers.
