Amidst the buzz of the launch of the new iPhone 7 by Apple, certain rumours are doing their round. Whether the headphone socket of iPhone7 will remain or will be removed, that is the question about which the users are bewildered. Generally Apple is known for its quickness to abandon its ports but according to a report suggested The Verge it seems a little bit different. So, let us glance upon once.
On the Verge
By careful inspection of the Verge report it was realised that majority of I/O standards of Apple last for about 15 years, approximately. And there are many instances of this. The monumental decision of removing the floppy from iMac was taken after 15 years of its survival. The USB connector also has been around for 18 years and already the new MacBook is gushing about the new USB‐C. Comparing with these, it can be said that the headphone socket has indeed enjoyed a long run.
It was first introduced in 1984 and since then had been the part of each and every Apple product. Thus, it has enjoyed a whooping life of 32 years, which is more than double of the lifespan of other ports of Apple.
Final Verdict
It is now known that there is a difference between the thing offered and thing received. The original plastic Macbook supported VGAs but actually possessed mini VGA ports. Slowly they moved towards different kinds of ports like mini DVI, mini Display, Thunderbolt and now Thunderbolt 2, thus displaying the difference in the kinds of the ports connected. However, keeping all these aside the solid fact which gives a hint about the future of the headphone is that the arrival of hardware development kit for the lightning headphones which are available in companies registered under the MFi programme of Apple. So, this time we might have to bid farewell to the headphone socket.
