There are new drone regulations that have been released by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration recently. This is in regards to allowing rescue flights, research, commercial and various other purposes that it is used for. In late August, these rules are said to be effective and flights will be permitted to obtain information that will come in handy for educational/academic use, research and development and even agriculture.
T was also reported by Reuters that in the sanctioned list, the fields include inspections and evaluations of power lines, pipelines, bridges and antennas It can also be used for the evaluations of wildlife nesting and even aerial photography.
A drone has to have a weight that is less than 55 pounds in order to quality. Other criteria include that the speed can be around 100 miles per hour and the height of the flight will not be more than 400 feet. With the help of special lightening, these vehicles can be flown at night. They are also not allowed to be within the 5 mile radius of the airports. Due to the present policies that exist for security, In Washington D.C, they will not be allowed.
The pilots need to be certified properly and have to be 16 years and above. In case of any kind of incident which results to property being damaged or injuries which are serious, the FAA would need to be informed about it accordingly. It is also essential that they should not fly over people directly and must stay within the drone’s visual range. Michael Huerta, the head of FAA also stated that there are plans in the future to come up with separate rules pertaining to the plans of aerial delivers for companies like Amazon which is presently not there in the new set rules. One of the regulatory issues which may trickle would be in regards to the deliveries.
