Edward Kandrot is a software engineer whose area of speciality is making codes run faster. A student of chemical engineering, the performance guy stated that the only thing that we can do since we are born in this world is make money, but more time is something that cannot be made.
He went on to say that if he was capable to help make a program a few seconds faster that is used by many people, it is equivalent of the lifetimes of many people. This 49 year old engineer has worked with some of the best names in the world. In the late 1980’s he worked first for Cricket Software as an engineer, he has also been part of companies like Facebook )No.3, Apple (No. 4), Google(No.1), Adobe(No.14) and even Microsoft(No.7).
He stated that even companies just like people have their own personalities which are very distant. It is only once that you are hired that you get the real feel of things. The working environment with Microsoft was more competitive, while with Facebook, he felt that he was with family. Google was more transparent while Apple doesn’t trust anyone and that is also the reason why most of the details of their products are under lock and key.
During his interview with Caroline Fairchild, he was asked a series of questions to understand not just how it was to work for the giants but also to understand his career path. For him it was just not about making money, but also the ability to do something which he has never done and to be able to create a positive impact and deliver the best he could. He also stated that he had a lot of things going on and still wants to pursue something of his own or even find a new company to work for.
