A new file system has been designed which can help scaling to a Mac Pro from an Apple Watch, this next gen system is called The Apple File System (APFS). Another thing that has been optimized is that APFS is also for SSD/Flash storage with the primary feature being the encryption which has been engineered.

· Case Sensitivity comes into the picture as presently the names of the files is said to be case sensitive.
· Presently there is no support that is available for the backups of TimeMachine.
· The FileVault presently cannot be used to encrypt the APFS volumes. · Fusion Drive also cannot be used presently by the APFS.
At this time the File System is not an Open Source and the company also has not really commented it they plan to make the File System as an Open Source. Apple has plans to publish and document the format of the APFS volume, with the next year release of the Apple File System.
