The well‐known activist DeRay Mckesson for black lives has shared his important insights about the cybercrime. He says that being a well‐known activist for the people, he is a high profile target too for hackers. It becomes important for him to safeguard his account from the evil eyes of the hackers and protect his identity from them at the same time.
DeRay says that by simply hacking the cellphone number of the user, it become very easy for them to get the whole access of the important data of the user. They initially hijack the phone number of the user in the first attempt and later reassign to some other device for obtaining the credentials. According to the latest census, more than 32 million twitter passwords have haven breached by the hacker’s illegitimate usage. Mckesson says that he is using two factor authentications for his account in his tweets shared with the people. This adds a protected layer of security for the users and protects them from getting misused or compromised with the hackers. This is much helpful in the cases where the account or the sensitive data has been compromised.
The hacker may be able to break the first layer however it is not possible for him to also guess the 2nd step verification password sent to the device. In case of unprotected access the users also gets notified by email about the incorrect usage of their data. Looking at the current scenario, it is important to acknowledge 2 step verification or the pin approved state. Most of the carriers in United States allow the user to add a personal level pinto their account for protecting the layer of security for the user. It is only available upon request by the user while the other major carriers are adding SSN verification to the account of user.
