A limited version has been passed by the U.K, House of Commons in regards to the investigatory Powers Bill. The controversial elements have been removed before the bill was passed, manufacturers would have to be faced with the demands of building or weakening the backdoors towards their encryption products.
Bloomberg’s report stated that even though there were a few oppositions that were remaining in regards to the civil rights and privacy, the bill had still been passed. Spy agencies are granted by the law to continue the surveillance in bulk with the powers that have been given to them. In the case of suspected criminals, they also have the power to break into their devices with the use of various kinds of malware. The bill’s most objectionable component was relating to the fact the encryption had to be weakened. There was a lot of criticism that had been followed from technology companies and civil liberties groups.
Last winter, the legislation had been critically challenged which had been led by Apple. An eight paged letter had been sent arguing on the same to the U.K. parliamentary committee in regards to the fact that all customers would be in danger if back doors were created. Even the protection was being weakened due to the capabilities that are intercepted.
Tim Cook, the chief executive of Apple had been warned in regards to dire consequences in regards to the passing of the law in regards to the language weakening device encryption. It had noted on the fact that the necessary cooperation is given by the company to the law enforcements; U.K towards the save lives and catch criminals. The company also went ahead and insisted on the fact that that weakening the device encryptions on Macs, iPads and iPhones would not really stop criminals.
