On Tuesday, Apple a patent was granted to Apple in regards to the iPhone speakers which is said to be water ‐ resistant. This hinted at a ruggedized handset that has a lot of potential along with the technology which one day may deliver Earpods headsets with advanced noise cancellation.
U.S. Patent No. 9,363,589 has been granted to Apple by the US Patent and Trademark Office. This is to come up with an acoustic device that is Liquid resistant. Very similar to what had been introduced by Apple Watch; the audio port details are similar in function and warm towards the component that is water resistant.
In the acoustic port like beneath apertures of the device housing, a specialized mesh has to be disposed in or to get various embodiments. This is very similar to what you would find in the iPhone currently. Through six potholes the loudspeaker that is mesh covered can be accessed.
A tight seal is created through an o‐ring or a mechanism that is similar which is copied to the acoustic model. The liquid is directed away from after contacting the protective mesh umbrella from passing through the housing apertures.
On the mesh layer, the flow of pressure could be reduced; this results in lowering the damage that can be caused. It has been noted by Apple that some configuration could be allowed by the mesh for a certain amount of liquid at a pressure that is significant; this is so that the structural harm can be avoided. The optimization of the system can further be achieved when the inner surface has a hydrophilic coating that has been applied, at the outside, the outer mesh umbrella will also have a hydrophobic coating.
The hydrophilic layer can be directly applied to the housing structure of the iPhone. This helps in defending against ingress that is unwanted. To help the liquid draw out, the surface of the inner mesh of hydrophilic coating that comes in hand if the barrier is breached.
