Sinisa Durekovic was recently hired by Apple who is a software engineer who has expertise in the various navigation systems of satellite. Bloomberg had reported that in October, Durekovic had been hired previously to help develop the various systems for satellite navigation for luxury vehicles like Mercedes‐Benz, Volkswagen and BMW while working with NAVTEQ and Harman/Becker Automotive systems.
The Linkedin profile of Durekovic does not contain any kind of information as to what his role or responsibilities will be with Apple. Even Bloomberg does not have any kind of information in regards to what he will be doing considering his expertise. Speculations that are being made is that he has probably come on board the company to join the team from CarPlay and Maps. It has been specifically listed that the areas of his expertise includes map enhanced advanced driver assistance systems, car navigation systems and digital maps. In his profile he has mentioned that he has more than 25 years of experience and is a Team Leader and Engineer as well as a Software Architect.
He has been developing and designing various kinds of software systems. In a midsized company, he was a Principal Engineer for 8 years, before he took on the role of a Chief Engineer for a major supplier of Navigation Systems; he was also a Senior Principal Architect. His main work is in Car Navigation Systems, Digital Maps, and Advanced Driver Assistant Systems which are map enhanced. Ever since 2012 when Apple had debuted the Maps service, there were a lot of poor reviews and criticism that came across. Apple has made a lot of efforts for significant improvements to be introduced. They have also been working to introduce new Flyover locations on a regular basis. Apart from that, on a timely manner even errors are taken care of. The introduction of transit directions came with iOS9.
