It has been suggested in one of the recent published patent of Apple that there are plans of the company to allow the use of the Apple Pencil with two iPad Pro models and Mac track pads. This patent was fined in 2014 originally where the Apple Pencil was referred by the company as ‘the stylus’. The text that is mentioned there mostly talks about the various uses of the stylus with a touch screen display which is also known as the iPad. There were also several drawings which show what seems to be the iMac or track pad
The ambition of the company towards the pencil does not end here. Also described in the patent is the use of the stylus with the three axis or six axis inertial sensors and acts more like a device used for general input. This includes various kinds of input devices such as the air mouse and joystick.
While the user is operating the stylus, the inertial sensor input can be gathered in one or various input modes like the controller mode which is rotational, the air mouse mode, the joystick mode or/and any other input modes of inertial sensors that it is compatible with. In the patent, the Apple Pencil’s version that has been described is one which is a lot more sophisticated in comparison to the model that is presently available in the market. One of the ability’s of the pencil is detecting the lateral moment in orientation, rotational movement and three dimensions.
Just like always, we cannot say if any of this will actually hit the markets however it is something that can make a lot of sense as designers and artists can benefit using just one device for their drawing needs on the Mac track pads and the two models of the iPad Pro.
