One of the classic examples of the cable TV’s heyday is the Weather Channel, however with the rise of smartphones and internet, this is becoming irrelevant. There is now work in progress by the company to get deeper into the weather and news that is localized with the channel called Local Now.
This is a channel that covers various kinds of news, traffic, sports, weather and various other updates for areas geographically. This service was initially available on the Sling TV service of Dish, however the Local Now‘s reach as per Reuter’s state it is slowly planning to expand to iOS and Android.
The App that would be designed would require the user to use their credentials provided by the cable provider in order to log in. This means for those whose connection may be cut, they would have a problem logging in. This can lead us to wonder then in the first place what the whole concept of designing the app is.
While this may be really good for The Weather Channel, however the existing broadcasts is leveraged and it can also combine them with a few partners that would provide content like the Associated Press and other such channels. The app is said to e‐launched in the month of June and would deliver various kinds of updates o the news even though there may be segments that would be pre recorded due to the fact that they are no anchors. This was a speculation that was made by Reuters.
