A patent has been granted to Apple recently for the Smart Cover of their iPads which is a lot smarter than the regular ones. A Wacom style drawing tablet and built in display is also being incorporated. Various ways have been illustrated in the patent in regards to how the person can use the display of the Smart Cover Apart from the fact that the display is an extension of the iPads own display, With the help of the display that shows text only things like notifications of reminders, a person can also combine the touchpad with the display.
IF the display is being used as a device for full input then it allows the person to go ahead and draw or make notes that are handwritten. From the patent, two elements have already gone into production. It is natural that such a cover would need some kind of power source, the patent shows an illustration which can be recognized easily as the Smart Connector of the iPad Pro. While the drawing of the patent shows that instead of three connection points there are four however we will get to see the actual product very soon.
By the looks of it, it seems that in the company’s mind, the Smart Connector has more roles apart from being just a keyboard. There is also an illustration that is shown by the company pertaining to an extra column of different kinds of icons. There are even allotments dedicated for solar panels. In another concept that was similar, it shows the use of the cover that can be combined with the touch panel and display and in another it shows combining the writing pad for reminders. Another thing that can be seen is the use of the cover as a Wacom style live drawing pad.
