After the first public that was released 20 years before, it has finally been confirmed by Apple that the framework of the Java based web application of WebObjects is dead. This is the information that was given as far as the official updates of Apple are concerned.
If you have not heard about the WebObjects, then you are not alone. In 190, this was considered to be a product which was a breakthrough and this was also the product that Steve Jobs was high on. This came to Apple officially doing the acquisition of the former company of Jobs called NeXT which was also considered to be one of the most historic deals. Even today, to power the iTunes Store and Apple Store, various aspects of WebObjects is being used. So can we consider this to be the end of an era?
Well in a way you can say yes. Hugi Thordarson, the developer of WebObjects and Java had revealed that the past few years, he had sent letters regularly to Tim Cook in regards to WebObjects and its state. Recently, an Apple executive had answered his question in regards to the question he asked. Initially when the executive had called him, he did not know anything about WebObjects however the second time he got the call from the executive, all the necessary information had been obtained as well as a statement that was very clear was told to him. Hugi was informed that the WebObjects was a product that was discontinued and the upgrading would never happen. Except for the name, WebObjects is dead in a lot of things.
In 2008 the last updated had been released, this was exactly a year after the shipment o iPhone. In 2009, the Mac OS X Server did not include the WebObjects as it was stopped by Apple.
