According to a recent report, it has been revealed that Apple has turned to a former executive of NEST, as well as the Google X co‐founder, none other than Yoky Matsuoka to be a part of their health initiative. Matsuoka, who was formerly the technology head of Nest will now be a part of the Apple family, heading the health initiative department. The health department of Apple mainly looks after the Care Kit, Health Kit and the Research Kit systems. Though the head of technology will be Matsuoka, he will be working under the health project head officer of company Jeff Williams.
Previously, Matsuoka was a part of the Google X team in the year 2009. He had helped to start off with the development of the program but didn’t stay for long. In 2010, he left Google to head the technology team at the Nest. It was purely coincidence that the co‐founder of Nest, Matt Rogers was actually Matsuoka’s classmate at an institute called Carnegie Mellon. After working five years at Nest, Matsuoka resigned from the company and aimed to work for Twitter, but couldn’t. In between the shift, he was taken seriously ill and was diagnosed with a life threatening illness.
Though the illness remains unknown, she was treated successfully and was back on her feet in no time. In recent years, we have seen Apple trying to expand their horizon to health related products. Their latest release in the health department was a product called CareKit. Before that, Apple had already released two health products, called the HealtKit and the ResearchKit.
By bringing in Matsuoka to the mix, Apple has ensured high quality of their health products. Though it has been verified from Matsuoka’s LinkedIn profile that she has in fact joined Apple and working in their health initiative, nothing certain is known about her position in the company.
