A recent announcement from Nokia stated that the company is planning to purchase the popular makers of various health care companion apps and accessories for other devices and iPhones called Withings. The purchase of Withings would be at 170 million Euros after which it would become a part of Nokia Technologies and will help in jump starting the efforts that the company plans to come up with products that are related to Digital Health.

Their official statement stated that as a company, they are planning to start a new chapter which is focused to connect people using the help of technology for a better health. The aim of the company is to make sure that people lead a healthier and happier life through products that are beautifully designed which is expected from Nokia.

In order to make sure that this happens faster, the Nokia family is welcoming Withings. Withings is a leader is apps and various products pertaining to digital health which can help to ensure long term health and well being. With connectivity and mobility being the heritage of Nokia the combination between the two companies would be perfect.

It is yet to be known that after the purchase if the business and brand of Withings would be separate or integrated under the branding of Nokia. There are various fitness and health related accessories that are sold presently by Withings for Android and iOS users which includes monitors for blood pressure, baby monitor/ security camera, thermometer scales and various other tracker wearable that can be used for fitness.

The plans of buying Withings by Nokia are expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year after they get the necessary usual approvals from the regulatory. With this move of the acquisition of Withings, the position of Nokia will strengthen in the Internet of things.
