Microsoft and Google which are the chief rivals of Apple have officially announced on Friday that on the basis of a mutual agreement, the two plan to drop all the regulatory complaints that have been made globally against each other and have also gone ahead and promised any disputes that come in the future would tried to be settled between them before they approach the government.
A spokesperson of Microsoft stated that all the complaints that Microsoft has made against Google will be withdrawn and these changes will also reflect on the legal priorities that the company plans to change. A similar comment was also made by Google which suggested on the merits of its product the company would compete.
It was even added by Microsoft on the European Commission’s antitrust charges; they will not take a position against Google. They were accused by Google that in some Android licensing terms they were hampering competition. At one time, Microsoft was a member of ICOMP and Fair Search. Antitrust complaints were filed by both the groups against Google, however, now Microsoft is no longer a part of both the organization.
The latest leaders of Microsoft and Google could be the attributes behind the policy switch. Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai have appeared to adopt a stance that is friendlier. A multi‐ platform strategy has been adopted by Microsoft which includes the development for more apps that is not just for windows devices but also for Mac, Android and iOS.
There were around 20 patent lawsuits that were halted by both the companies in September 2015 against each other in Germany and US. As of right now, it also seems that Microsoft may be happy about the fact that all the OEMs give them their Android royalty cheques. As opposed to the regulatory complaints, these are the ones that actually make them money.
