In recent times, BBC had an interview with the co‐founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak on British Radio. According to the facts of the interview, Wozniak feels that Apple should not get any added advantage on the tax system even though it is one of the largest companies in the world.
He clearly stated that the rule distinction between smaller individually run companies and larger corporate in terms of taxes is not quite supported by him. Since the tax for other companies is 50%, even Apple should pay that, says Wozniak.
Till date, there has been no such complains that Apple has not paid their taxes or that they clearly evade it. On the other hand, the company has a reputation of not being one of the most top rated taxpayers. They use a lot of different business schemes and financial manipulations to evade from paying as much as they can. The biggest example of the schemes they use is Ireland. As per the reports that have come out regarding the tax issues of Apple in Ireland, they pay much lower than the required rate.
Along with the national radio broadcast, BBC had also released a small video of the interview with Wozniak. In the video, the comments made by the cofounder were a bit more subdued than it usually is. Moreover, the comments seemed to be quite contradicting too. Even though he says that Apple must pay full taxes, he also says that the different rates for corporate and individuals may be justified. He further goes on into stating that the Silicon Valley is now more money oriented that product oriented. They focus more on earning revenue than creating quality products for the general public.
