It is not something new to us when we hear rival companies in the tech industry making claims that they upcoming products are the best and have always tried to invoke Apple’s name in some way or the other. Well HP this time has done exactly the same thing. With the unveiling of its new notebook, HP has made predictions that the notebook is very similar to the ultra‐thin Macbook of Apple when it was shown for the first time to public this week.
The personal systems group president, Ron Coughlin in his statement stated that for a very long time now, people have seen Apple as a company that is an innovation driver and innovator and now finally it is time for HP to take over that title.
The details has not been revealed by the company however the wait is not very long as the company plans to show the laptop on Tuesday at Versailles’ international Luxury conference. Just like how other companies in invoke Apple when any new product is launched, the efforts of HP releasing a laptop that is slimmer than that of apple is a lot more symbolic. By choosing to target the market segment which is interested in ultra light and ultra thin notebooks, HP in a lot of ways are trying to prove the point that even they can come out with notebooks that are innovative in every way. The company seems to be proving its point desperately.
So why does it actually matter?
This is because just like other non Mac makers, even HP seemed to have suffered the brunt of interest declining. The revenue of the 1st quarter which ended in Jan showed a fall of 12% for HP. On the other side, the sales on Mac still continues to defy the downturn of the PC industry overall in a lot of ways.
