They have come to a mutual deal, Apple and the Major League Baseball that during the baseball matches; they are going to use iPads in the dugouts. The iPads would show the stats. It would be used to compare pitching range, analyse pitcher hitter matchups etcetera. The iPad would certainly be a new player in Major League Baseball. The iPad tablets would be provided to each of the teams so that coaching staffs can use of the data more accurately. The major league baseball’s media division would create and customise an application which is named as ‘MLB Dugout’ along with the help taken from Apple.
The 12.9 inch tablets would be fitted with rugged cases and covers so that the iPad is fully protected. Recently all the smart phones, laptops and tablets are banned from the dugouts and hence the apple‐MLB Dugout deal has been possible. The question might arise that when the Smartphones and tablets have been banned from the dugout, how was this deal possible? Here what happened, whether the Major League Baseball had paid for the apple products or Apple has paid for their promotion, this chapter is not disclosed.
Microsoft has also signed a deal with the National Football League which is quite similar to that of Apple’s. It would feature Microsoft tablets during games. This cost $400 million to the Microsoft. This is the major difference between Apple’s Major League Baseball and Microsoft’s National Football League is that the iPad’s would be given to all the coaches of the team but the use of it is on their will. It is not mandatory but optional whereas, Microsoft made it mandatory to use their Surface Tablets on the sidelines. It is required to be visible.
