Just last year, in the month of March of 2015, Facebook put forward a statement regarding the new vision they are introducing for the Messenger app. During the developer’s conference the company had, called the F8, they announced that they wanted to transform the popular messaging Facebook app in a form of platform which would help users help their Facebook friends by being able to transfer money to each other. The app will also have the feature which will enable users to make online transactions with Messenger and similar online businesses.
Messenger app has come a long way since then have added various extra features. Moreover, this year, in 2016 the company is looking to add more features to the messenger app, which will help the user to make over the counter payments using this app. Although the company has not made any kind of commitments in this field, but as per reliable reports, the new coding of the messenger app suggests that this is in fact, true. The coding showed that new features are being introduced in the site which will enable users to make payments at retail shops. On the other hand, it is still not clear on how the company is looking to make this happen.
The main reason behind taking this step is quite simple. As we all know, most of the large technology companies have gone into the online payment business, whereas Facebook is yet to venture into that field. Though a beginner in many aspects, the company has quite some experience dealing with retailers. Back in the year 2010, Facebook had a phase when they were dealing with retailers in which the Facebook app gave the opportunity to users to use special discount coupons from various top rated retail outlets.
