This is shocking, what the former CIA boss has said is unrealistic. FBI’s war with Apple has gone too far and the demands are increasing day by day. It is a different form of data collection. It is more than just encryption and privacy, it is about power. The battle continued for many days and now FBI wants to modify the operating system. If they do this, it will be outrageous. James Woolsey worked with CIA previously and revealed some shocking things. Changing a mobile’s software architecture is hard and Apple will probably never do it. Majority of the people think this is about the shooter’s phone, but the real matter is much deep. FBI has bigger plans, by modifying iOS; they will gain more access into every phone.
By this process, FBI will control Apple in a way. They are the lawmakers and they are doing this for the safety of the people. Big companies should handle delicate information carefully and secure systems will be more popular in the future. Companies are investing on privacy technology and they are learning from Apple. Data breaches have troubled companies before and this is where encryption comes in the picture. But this has a flip side, terrorists use these secured networks to communicate privately. No one can understand how they are operating and the safety of the people is at risk here. It is hard to pick a side in this battle, both parties have strong arguments. Is this technology’s dark side? Well, millions of people are benefitted from this security and Apple can’t control how people make use of their technology.
Investigations are hampered, the roadblocks are unnecessary. Woolsey supported Apple to some extent and he is against the iOS restructure. What happened in California is unfortunate, it’s sad, but as a tech giant, Apple will not allow the agency to alter the OS.
