According to the latest reports put forward by Bloomberg, Apple has been asked to pay a huge sum of money to not only the court and the government, but also the consumers of eBooks regarding the case that was filed back in 2012. The lawsuit which was filed against Apple in 2012 stated that the company had over priced most of the eBooks available in the Apple iStore. Way back in 2012, Apple had appealed against the lawsuit and went as far as the Supreme Court to prove their innocence. Only problem was that the Justice of the Supreme Court declined Apple’s petition and decided not to listen to them. This step taken by the Supreme Court enabled the federal court to sue Apple.
Moreover, there were 30 more states which sued Apple regarding this case. As a result, Apple had to pay the eBook consumers a total of $400 million, the state another $20 million and the legal section, $30 million. Previously, in June 2015, the ruling was still the same and Apple simply had to pay a sum total of $450 million to clear the over pricing case. Moreover, the case is much stronger against Apple as the final verdict was taken by the Federal Court and Apple’s pleas getting declined by the Supreme Court.
On the other hand, early in the year 2014, Apple had put forward a formal appeal against the decision. Not only that, but they also challenged the court monitor, who was responsible for overseeing Apple’s iBook activities. The most ironic part of the whole deal was that the monitor was actually removed from post when Apple’s iBook activity was found to be satisfactory. A lot of evidence also came out. These included interviews done by Eddy Cue, a number of emails in the mailbox of Steve Jobs, and many more.
