Even though Apple has not made any kind of Mac network port for the Ethernet on the Mac, last week the company managed to break into the port by mistake during the update of the kernel extension for the OS X. The issue was reported by many users online since it was noticed that the Ethernet port was not working and they were not able to connect to the internet. The problem has finally been acknowledged on the support page of the company. The best thing is that this problem is something that is temporary and can easily be fixed.
For those whose Ethernet port is no longer working, you need to first go and check the System information and find out the version of the file that is installed. If the number is 3.28.1, then you need to make sure you get the configuration updated. The reason for this to happen is because the system on its own blacklisted the networking text. Once you have found the version number, you need to click on Apple menu’s option key and search for the Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data for updating it.
After updating, if you can go ahead and connect to the WIFI, that means that when you updated the file, it helped to restore the Ethernet cable’s functionality and open a terminal. You need to type the command
SUDO SOFTWAREUPDATE ‐ BACKGROUND
After typing this, you will be prompted for your administrator password. On completing it, you then need to quit the terminal and restart your Mac. Once the Mac has restarted, the Ethernet port should not have problems connecting to the net. In case you are still not able to do so, you can read the complete steps of what needs to be done so that you can resolve the problem. The further information is located at the Support site of Apple.
