Regarding the investigation on the San Bernardino case, many recent issues have cropped up. The latest issue is regarding the iPhone and the court order placed by FBI to Apple, the manufacturers of the phone. Apple had refused complying with the court case and is presently fighting the court order, stating that the order will affect all Apple iPhone users and not only this iPhone. Regarding this, many eminent people have given their opinions, some siding with the FBI, others giving proper respect to Apple’s decision.
Michael Hayden, a four star former general, and also a former NSA director, had sided with Apple regarding the case. It has actually been a long time that the FBI has contested with the state for gaining access to the phones and private mails of the citizens of the United States in order to search and find out potential threats and neutralize them before any damage can be created. During his tenure, Michael Hayden had always gone against this proposal. According to him, accessing private telephonic conversations on all citizens is not only unethical, but also a crime in encroaching in one’s private property, without any legal warrant.
Keeping this in mind, Michael is siding with Apple, and also against the petition put forward by many state heads, who have made it a law that all tech companies should open the personal data bank of their phones, even if unlocked. In short, they should be ready to provide with backdoors to the security system of their phones if required by the state for any kind of investigation. According to the General, this is forced encroachment in the lives of millions of innocent beings of the country. Moreover, it does not seem fair that the government will have so much power and surveillance over the lives of their citizens.
